South Carolina

As I mentioned in the previous blog, we took our first family vacation to Charleston, SC.  Amy's Aunt Janie was kind enough to put us up in her place for the week and even allowed us to use one of her cars which really helped cut down on the cost.  The trip was a nice combination of visiting extended family and site seeing with just the three of us.  Aunt Janie even baby sat for us one night which allowed us to have dinner for the first time in forever without a high chair! Of course Bree was a perfect angel for her, she slept the entire time we were gone!  Bree had a chance to play with several of her cousins (Fisher, Claire, Mark, Sarah and Abby) and had a great time.  Because so much was going on around her, Bree actually ended up changing her routine.  Prior to the trip, she would stay up basically all day at daycare, then I would put her down for a 2 hour nap when we got home, wake her up to feed and bathe, and then go back to bed (around 10:00 or so).  Well, in SC she decided to basically do no napping at all which meant she crashed around 7:30 or 8:00 and slept for around 11 hours.  This actually became more of her permanent routine when we came home though she does take naps on weekends.

We did a lot of site seeing while we were in SC.  We toured downtown Charleston where I discovered 2 things: 1) Bree's limit on sitting in one spot is still 45 minutes, whether it be a plane, car, or horse drawn carriage it doesn't matter and 2) praline's are quite possibly the most awesome dessert ever made.  For those of you who don't know they're basically pecans dipped in a ton of sugar.  When they are fresh out of the oven they are spectacular (that's how they draw you in, give you free warm samples and you're hooked). We also took Bree on a ferry to see Ft Sumter.  Bree enjoyed the ride with the wind in her face however the ending of our ride was quite interesting.  Apparently our ferry driver was asleep at the wheel or something because as he was pulling into the Fort he plowed right into one of the pier columns, not even close to missing it.  We also took Bree to the beach twice which was a lot of fun.  Bree wasn't a huge fan of the waves, but we had a little wading pool during one of the trips and she sat and played in there for like an hour, exceeding her usual 45 minutes of sitting in one place time!  We had perfect weather while we were down there, 80 degrees and sunny with no rain.  Of course when it came time to leave we were wondering whether we made the right decision living in CT (where it was in the 50s) but now that it's July and it's in the 80's as opposed to 100 degrees with 100% humidity I'm thinking we did:)

In case you didn't know, Bree doesn't like fountains

Bree's attempt at mini-putting, didn't make it past the first hole

Amy has a baby picture that looks exactly like Bree in this shot!
