Brianna experiences snow in October!

So much for the global warming thing, on October 29-30, 2011, Miss. Brianna experienced her very first snowfall. So let’s back track a bit. I had been checking the weather report the week before as our home inspection (Jason will be writing a blog entry about the home buying process) was scheduled for Saturday, October 29th. The reports were fuzzy at best, one minute saying just rain, the next rain/snow showers, and then finally snow. Well about 2 hours into our inspection, we looked outside and realized that it was indeed snowing. Giant white flakes were falling from the sky, covering our soon-to-be lawn. Bree’s Gigi and Pappy (my parents) who were up visiting for a few days decided to hit the road early to hopefully beat the storm. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t hold up for them and it took them two days to get home as they had to spend a night in a hotel. So after our home inspection, we drove home, and I couldn’t believe it, the snow was really coming down. It was unreal to look outside and see trees with their leaves still on them, some of them still in the middle of changing colors, mixed with heavy white snow. And not just flurries, but an actual snowstorm. We pulled up to our townhome and saw that our Halloween pumpkins were starting to have snow accumulate on them. So while Bree was in an active alert stage, we put her in her little reindeer zip-up outfit and let her experience snow for the first time. She was so cute and adorable with it. She didn’t quite know what to make of the snow. Of course, we had to take some pictures and a video to document this memorable and historic event. While Jason was holding her in his arms, you could see little snowflakes hitting her face and getting stuck on her eyelashes. At one point she stuck her tongue out like she was trying to catch the snowflakes. When her little nose started getting red, we figured it was time to bring her inside and warm her up. This was the exciting and fun part of the snowstorm, more to come on the not-so-fun part later. But at this point, it was very fun to see Brianna get to experience and play with the snow. Even though I’m not a cold-weather person and typically don’t like playing outside in the snow for significant lengths of time, I can envision myself and Jason getting Bree all set in her warm, puffy snowsuit and coat and playing snowball fights, making snow forts, sledding, making snowmen, and making snow angels when she gets to be a bit older. I definitely feel like I’m gaining a better appreciation for the seasons as I can envision Bree experiencing all of them as a little child. Makes me glad we chose to move to Connecticut!
