Sleeping in her big girl crib

Right after Brianna turned 1 month old, I had thoughts of transitioning Bree from her swing to the big girl bed. When we brought her home from the hospital, she refused to sleep in the crib and instead would scream and cry whenever she was placed down. Being new and sleep-deprived parents, Jason and I became creative and placed her in anything that she would not scream at...hence the baby swing (although it was never used as a swing as the swinging motion seemed to freak her out). So for several weeks, Bree has been sleeping peacefully in her swing. Jason was under the philosophy "if it's not broken, don't fix it," but I became worried as all the baby books and warnings tell parents to place their babies on their backs on a firm mattress in the crib to reduce the risk of SIDS. So with a call to the doctor and some promises from me if the night went badly that we would both split the duties, I convinced Jason to attempt to place Bree to sleep in her crib over the Labor Day weekend. The nurse that I talked to warned us that the first night might be really rough as infants develop a sense of routine, but by the third night Bree should be taking to the change in sleep placements. Prepared for a horrible night of no sleep and screaming, Jason and I fed Bree her evening bottle, crossed our fingers, and hoped for the best. Bree being the best baby in the world (I know I'm biased) actually took to the transition with little difficulty. She still slept her regular 4-5 hours and didn't have an increase in screaming sessions!! Yay! Although, Jason did say that her feeding was a bit rough as she seemed tired and restless. We watched Bree as she slept and realized that she is one active sleeper! If we put Bree vertically in the center of the crib, she would be horizontal at the end of the crib in just a few hours. After some research online, Jason found some sleeper swaddle sacks that seem to have limited Bree's movement in bed. She is now sleeping beautifully in her crib and my worries about increased risk of SIDS are now officially put to rest! Thanks, Jason!
