2 Month Well Baby Visit

I've been meaning to update the blog for the last few weeks, but just have not had the time to do so. I can hardly believe that my little girl just had her 2 month well baby visit just a few weeks ago. Again, Jason and I made bets to see who could guess Bree's weight. This time, momma had it right on the dot. Our little girl is 10 lbs even. She is now 22 1/4 inches long. Her weight has not changed, she is still in the 25.5%, but her height has decreased. At the 1 month well baby appointment, Bree was in the 75% for height and now she's in the 50%. I'm assuming this means that she'll be a little shrimp. Although, I can't say I'm all that surprised. My dad continues to reference that Brianna is still 20% and 45% more advanced in weight and height than I was as a child. Of course, Jason was off the charts in both, too bad he stopped once he hit puberty. I'm guessing she be a little over 5'1" when she's finished growing. Brianna received a clean bill of health when it came to her eyes, ears, heart, lungs, and body movement. The poor thing received two vaccines in the form of a needle and one vaccine in the form of liquid drops. She did okay with the first vaccine, but when she had to get the second poke, that's when the huge tears and screams came out. Poor child, breaks my heart to see. We did get one little piece of information that I'm trying not to focus on too much (don't want to freak myself out). When the doctor examined Brianna's body, she noted that Bree's chest sinks in a bit. Jason and I both noticed this earlier, but didn't think it was anything. Apparently, Brianna may have a slight deformity called Pectus Excavatum (otherwise known as a sunken breastbone). The doctor said the only way to tell for sure is to complete an x-ray on Brianna's chest, but with Bree only being 2 months old, she thought this would expose her to unnecessary radiation. If Brianna's chest doesn't fill out by the time she is 5-6 years old, the doctor said she would recommend an x-ray. The doctor reassured me that this was not something to be overly concerned about, especially not now. She mentioned that the main concern when Brianna's gets older is that if this is severe, it could limit the amount of space that her heart and lungs have to operate. However, this is only in severe cases. I, of course, went home and goggled Pectus Excavatum (caution....don't ever do this if you're a first time parent - the internet was only designed to make us crazy with worry!). The first website I found freaked me out as it talked about side effects being the inability to do strenuous exercise. However, the second website I found was more reassuring and had several posts from people who have this diagnoses. Most said that it never interfered with their lives or development and only some mentioned that they were made fun of for it as a small child. When I told my parents about this development, my dad mentioned that his chest has always been a bit sunken in as well (thanks for the genetics, dad....just playing!). For now, the doctor assured me that Brianna is a beautiful and healthy little girl. We will watch how she fills out to determine if an x-ray is needed in her future. For now, she'll just continue to collect a bit of water on her chest when we give her her baths. I think she's still perfect no matter what! Next doctor's appointment in is 2 months from now. Daddy will get to take her to that one.
