Names

We're in the process of trying to figure out names for baby pistachio.  Now this process would go twice as fast if a certain someone would agree with me and find out if it's a boy or a girl in a few weeks, but it seems we'll likely be waiting to the end unless she changes her mind.  So, we need to come up with a name for a boy and a girl.  If it's a girl, we both have agreed that we will be going with the name Brianna.  We actually thought this one up a while ago, well before we were even trying to get pregnant and we both just loved it.  But, the boy's name is a bit more of a challenge.  Now here's where we need everyone's help.  I know you probably haven't posted too many comments up to this point, but if you're going to post at all this would be the time.  If you don't post and we pick a terrible name you have no room to complain!  Below is the list of names that we're considering.  Feel free to let us know which ones you like (or don't like).  We have decided that the middle name will be Emery (if it's a boy) in honor of Grandpop.  That would be the 5th straight generation that Emery has been used.  So when you're thinking of the name keep in mind how it will flow with Emery as a middle name.  The jury is still out on this one so your comments could have a huge impact!  Oh, and in case you were wondering, the correct answer is Shamus:)
I also put up a poll for people to vote for their favorite baby boy name if you don't want to leave a comment.  Feel free to vote, leave a comment or do both!

  1. Amy/Jason your blog is so cute! I think these names are a little awkward with Emery: Dmitri, Damien. All of them sound good with Billings (I'm sure you went over that already).

I'm not sure about Griffin. It's more commonly a last name, and I can see a kid being teased for being named after a mythical beast. Being a Harry Pottery fan it also conjures up images of Gryffindor.

If you name the boy Chase, he would have to be a cool kid to get away with it. If he's nerdy, I could see him being teased.

Now, some of these names are also rising in popularity (like Aiden I think) so there is the possibility there could be other little boys by that name. Another thing to keep in mind.

Or, you can give a nod to Amy's time with DCFS and consider these names: C'myuelle, Prince, I.N.-Kinnik, Jylazerean Sir Knight, Jamairreine Mauri'onauey, and so many many more.

If you need ideas for a middle name for Brianna and want to give a nod to Amy's DCFS time, you could do: Angel Dreams, Im'unique, Aninja, Precious, Princess, Tequila Cocaine... too many to choose from really.

  2. Dear Amy & Jason,
Thank you so much for sending us your blog! It will be exciting to travel with you on your new journey. (I'm with you, Amy, for waiting until the birth to find out the sex. There's something really magical about waiting!)We were so happy to be there when you announced it to the family MLK weekend and to actually see little Pitashio. As you announced it I couldn't help but remember babysitting you over all those years & seeing how happy you and Jason are together:)

My personal favorite name is Nathan. I very much like its meaning and think it goes well with Emery. I also like Colin and Evan for the way they sound with Emery and their spiritedness.

I'm going to pass your blog on to Cara and Caitlin. I'm sure they will be excited to follow along as well.

We are so very excited and happy for you!!!

    Love,
    Jeannette and Botch

  3. Now that I've read ever comment and shed a few tears (don't know why....it's just so heartfelt!) I really do love your blog. Thanks for sharing. I love the names Cole and Owen, they've always been on our list of boys names....not sure how Emery flows with those names but I like 'em!

  4. As we have already talked with you about these names, I still have to vote for Eli, especially since your great-great-great grandfather was named Eli Billings. I think Eli Emery flows very nicely and your son would also have his great grandfather's initials. But, in the end, any name will be just perfect for your child because you named him. Love, Mom

  5. Amy and Jason.

I love your blog! It's really precious to share your journey with all of us. And how cool of u guys to want our 2 cents on boy's names! I'm so honored. Ok, here's mine for what it's worth...

Aiden Emery Billings-- nice. Beautiful choice.

Chase Emery Billings-- sounds like a character on a soap opera, but I like it!

Cole Emery Billings-- unique, it works, too!

Colin Emery Billings (I like it best with one L) It's also really nice.

Damien Emery Billings. I'm kind of dating myself but people may associate this name with 1976's The Omen. But it does sound good with Billings!

Damon Emery Billings. I have a very cool and very talented friend named Damon Locks. Also sounds good with Billings!

Dmitri Emery Billings. Sounds very Russian to me. Are u guys part Russian?

Dmitrius Emery Billings. Ditto. Kind of long, people would probably be tempted to shorten it-- but to what? D?

Eli Emery Billings. LOVE this name--- a lot. This is one of my favorites!

Elijah Emery Billings. I also love this one and if u chose this, Eli could be a nickname. How can u go wrong naming a kid after a prophet? Also one of my favorites!

Evan Emery Billings. Not bad, either. My 3rd choice "e" name, after Elijah and Eli.

Griffin Emery Billings. Definitely unique. Would u mind people calling him Griff?

Isaac Emery Billings. LOVE this one too, a whole lot. It has a lot of depth. One of my favorites!

Kale Emery Billings. I love the vegetable kale, so this one makes me think of it. It's quite unique!

Kaleb/Caleb Emery Billings. Nice name, too. I like the meaning, as well.

Logan Emery Billings. Also the name of friends' son-- he's about 3 and a half. Definitely a power name--I like it.

Nathan/Nathanial Emery Billings. They're both nice. But people might call him Nate-- would u mind that?

Owen Emery Billings. Dan's bosses son is named this, but they spell it Eoin. Really nice name.

Riley Emery Billings. Sounds great with Billings, but a tad redundant with Emery. But not bad...

Shamus Emery Billings. Super Irish! I really like the nickname Shay, too.

Travis Emery Billings. Sounds like a country singer. Isn't there a popular country singer named Travis?

Trevor Emery Billings. Not bad, either. Worked with a guy named Trevor Lawrence-- he's Stevie Wonder's godson!!!

They're all awesome names. And I love Brianna, too.

    Love,
    Anita
